Kitchen La Bohème

My ever-evolving side project, my personal food blog Kitchen La Bohème, has a fresh new look. I’m always at my happiest when I’m preparing and photographing dishes for KLB! Tweaking the graphic elements and branding, and overseeing the project as it developed into the “Bohemian Kitchen” that I’d originally dreamed up has been an exciting process.

KLB is a source for Vegan and Vegetarian recipes and other food-related content, and a platform for inciting social change by showing how beautiful and delicious plant-based cuisine can be. Check out the full blog here!

Welcome Back + New Website

I am swamped! With nearly everything in life keeping me busy around the clock, I’d forgotten all about the Hyperfocus blog. Welcome back, if you still follow. I’ve made a promise to myself to get back to updating this blog with new information and work as often as possible. For now, you can check out some of my most recent personal work: food blog Kitchen La Boheme.

KLB keeps me incredibly busy during the small amount of free time I have these days. Aside from KLB, I’m still working on figuring out how to make Sweeties New York Pastry Co. a full reality, and working a 9-6 graphic design job.

And I’m happy to announce that a new HyperfocusNyc.com showcasing my graphic design work and also some of my food photography has launched. Check it out here!

Progress Report

This coming Tuesday I’ll be shooting for the Sweeties New York Pastry Co. project with photographer Nathan Sayers, whom I’ve shot with plenty of times while working as the Associate Art Director for Dance Spirit magazine over the years. We’ll be working in his studio on product shots for the web site as well as for an advertising campaign I’ve developed. Chat Plates from the MoMA Store are involved, but that’s all I can say for now…

Above is a screen shot of some of Nathan’s work and you can see more at www.nathansayers.com.

Typography Kaleidoscope

I just came across this amazing set of kaleidoscopes with patterns made from type. According to the artist, Katerna Orlikova, the idea was based off of the topic, “Light and Typography.” You can read more about the project and see more images here.

Monday Find

This series of billboards created by Joni Kukkohovi for the Cancer Society of Finland blew me away. Each one was crafted using actual cigarettes. The fabulous campaign earned Joni and his creative team plenty of awards, including Cannes Lions, Eurobest, Cresta and Epica.

The full campaign can be viewed on the Behance Network, here. To find out more about Joni and his business, FWD Helsinki, visit www.fwd.fi/

Love! Roundup

Welcome to February’s Love! Roundup. These are some favorite things I’ve discovered online over the past month, from the Love! folder I keep on my Mac’s desktop:

1. Ampersandwich Tee
For Typophiles and those who just can’t get enough of ampersands. Who doesn’t want an Ampersandwich?!

2. Bulb Lantern
A fabulous twist on traditional paper lanterns.

3. Goodnight Bush
Hilarious parody of the classic children’s book Goodnight Moon, making fun of the Bush Presidency.

4. Type: A Visual History of Typefaces and Graphic Styles, Vols. 1 & 2
Another item for typophiles, like myself: “A connoisseur’s overview of typeface design, exploring the most elegant fonts from the history of publishing.”

5. I Am Not A Paper Cup
Simple and useful, a wonderful alternative to disposable beverage cups.

6. Come In/Go Away Doormat
Brilliant typeplay allows this single mat to either welcome or cast away visitors.

7. Rapidograph Pens
For the old-school designer and everyone who values the perfect pen for precise drawing. A new set has been on my Want list for some time now!

8. Sweet Treats — A Typographical Cookbook
So I think you get that I love typography. I just can’t get enough. Also? I love to bake. And I know there are plenty of you out there who are just like me. This cookbook satisfies these two great loves in one elegant package.

9. Tweetbottle
Another great way to cut back on disposable cups and bottles! And this one is geared specifically toward those of us who are not only environmentally concerned, but who are also addicted to Twitter.

10. PS Magnet Kit
Need I say more? These are soon to be all over my refrigerator.

That wraps up this Love! Roundup. I empty my Love! folder monthly, so check back at the end of March when I post next month’s roundup to see more fun items. If you have a product you’d like me to take a look at and possibly feature, you can send links to ayeager [at] hyperfocusnyc.com.
